Learner Driven
Personalized Learning is a Learner Driven approach to education that empowers students to take ownership of their learning, co-construct goals, make choices and collaboratively monitor their progress. This helps learners build a sense of efficacy to approach complex and challenging tasks with a sense of confidence and embrace failure as a learning opportunity. Learners experience agency as the active driver of their own learning through goal setting.
Indicators of a Learner Driven Classroom include:
1.1 Learners set goals and make choices about how to accomplish them.
1.2 Learners monitor progress towards future goals with appropriate instructional support.
1.3 Learners and educators collaborate to develop profiles that provide a narrative of their assets, barriers to learning, needed supports and future career goals.
Learning Targets
BUILD a collaborative cohort of school leaders to support personalized learning in Ohio Schools
DEVELOP an understanding of how the Ohio Personalized Learning Framework supports the innovative culture in your building (ie. STEM)
DETERMINE individual and collective “why” for personalized learning and the degree to which your school/district guiding principles support personalized learning
DEVELOP a foundational understanding of the essential elements of Ohio’s Personalized Learning Framework and the Learner Driven indicators
COLLABORATE in my school design team to develop a commitment aligned to the Learner Driven component of the Ohio Personalized Learning Framework
Pre-Work
We are so excited to see you at convening one! Prior to the convening please complete the convening one pre-work that you can find HERE. We anticipate the pre-work to take 20-35 minutes.
Choice Sessions
Participants will explore the need for learner profiles, explore examples and learn how to utilize learner profiles to encourage ownership of learning
Participants will develop an understanding of best practices for supporting learners in setting short- and long-term goals with a mastery orientation, leveraging conferencing to co-construct goals. Participants will explore templates and resources to develop a plan for implementation.
Participants will consider progress monitoring as a high leverage strategy to increase ownership of learning. You’ll leave with immediately applicable ideas that make monitoring goals visible to your learners.
Designed for school/district leaders and instructional coaches, this session focuses on leadership strategies to create a shared vision for personalized learning and a learner-driven culture.
